Cipriani Potter (1792-1871) was born in London and had some success in his lifetime as a composer, conductor, pianist and piano teacher, although he has since fallen into obscurity, and it is difficult to find much information about the man or his music.
He created a favourable-enough impression during a visit to Europe in 1871 that Beethoven made positive comments (at least by Beethoven's usually-critical standard!) on Potter's compositional abilities.
