
Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in London in 1968. They are regarded as early contributors to the development of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although their musical direction has changed at different points in their career. The band initially played psychedelic and progressive rock before shifting to a heavier style with the 1970 album "Deep Purple in Rock".
