Walter Huston (1883-1950) was a celebrated American actor on stage and screen from the 1920s through the 1940s. He was also the father of director/screenwriter/actor John Huston (The Maltese Falcon, The African Queen, Chinatown, The Dead et al) and grandfather of actor Anjelica Huston. All three Hustons won Academy Awards.
Among Walter's best known screen roles were Mr Scratch, opposite Edward Arnold, in The Devil and Daniel Webster (1941) and the old miner Howard, opposite Humphrey Bogart, in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948), which was directed by Huston's son John.
September Song, performed by Huston and featured on Last.fm, came from the 1938 musical Knickerbocker Holiday, with music by Kurt Weil. It is a classic standard, and for many fans, Histon's original recording is still the most expressive version of the song.
